Following a massive leak detailing the future of the Pokémon franchise, including the rumored Gen 10 titles Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, a former senior marketing lead for Nintendo has publicly called for the company to “rethink their approach to information security.”
Kit Ellis, a former Nintendo marketing lead and co-host of the popular Kit & Krysta Podcast (alongside fellow former Nintendo staffer Krysta Yang), made the comments after a deluge of unverified, yet highly specific, information allegedly from internal documents and the recent “Teraleak” of data from developer Game Freak’s servers spread across the internet (High CPC Keywords: Nintendo data leak, Pokémon security breach, Game Freak cyberattack, Gen 10 rumors).
The Critical Analysis from Inside
Ellis argued that despite both Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) being “obsessive about preserving surprises,” they are now two of the companies with the most significant, ongoing leaks in the industry. The leaks, which reportedly involve information stretching years into the future, are “damaging” to the brands. Ellis stated:
“Nintendo and Pokemon really need to rethink their approach to information security… they need to really look in the mirror and be like, ‘What are we doing wrong? Because we think we’re great at this, but based on the results you’re actually not.'”
His co-host, Krysta Yang, added insight from her time at the company, noting that traditional security efforts often focus on tightening existing “leak vectors” but may miss new or evolving vulnerabilities. Ellis suggested that the companies are perhaps “fixated on the wrong thing” and need to “expand the scope” of their security thinking, as the source of the leaks may not be the obvious internal channels.
What the Leak Allegedly Contains
While unconfirmed and subject to major changes if legitimate, the rumored leak details a massive overhaul for the mainline series. Key alleged details for Pokémon Winds and Waves include (High CPC Keywords: Pokémon Winds and Waves details, Pokémon Gen 10 new features):
- Titles: Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Wave, set for a rumored 2026 release.
- Region: Reportedly based on Southeast Asia/Indonesia, featuring a heavy emphasis on jungle exploration and an archipelago setting.
- New Mechanics: Mentions of a new battle system focused on Weather Effects (Tenko-Waza) and an “MMO-like hub” where the adventure begins.
- New Pokémon: Introduction of “Seed Pokémon”—baby forms that evolve in a procedurally-generated manner, potentially creating unique forms for every player.
The severity of the breaches, which have also impacted other major titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and even the new Switch 2 console, is unprecedented, lending weight to the former marketing leads’ call for a significant overhaul of The Pokémon Company and Nintendo’s security protocols.
